The Company of Biologists has announced a mobile-optimised web interface for its journals Development, Journal of Cell Science, The Journal of Experimental Biology and Disease Models & Mechanisms. The open access journal, Biology Open, will be available as a mobile-optimized website in 2012.
The interface is powered by the HighWire Press electronic publishing system.
Features include:
- access to all current, archived and advance-publication journal content
- improved navigation for smaller screens
- simplified search page
- email-forwarding functionality
- personalisation and authentication sign-in options
- journal branding
Users accessing the journal sites through a mobile device will be detected and automatically redirected to the mobile-optimised web interface. Access control will be the same as on the main journal websites. An institution's subscription will give users access to all content through the institution's WiFi connection, with the added ability for users to access content when off campus using an authentication process.
Supported operating systems include iOS (iPhone and iPod touch), Blackberry OS and Android smartphones.
