IReL Resources 2010 - Update (04 . 05 . 2010)

In early 2010 it emerged that the budget available for the IReL initiative in 2010 and 2011 would suffer significant cuts and a number of resources were cancelled in late January 2010. In the interim and due to the collective efforts of the IUALG, IRIS office and IReL steering group, with vital support from the HEA and IUA Council , it has been possible to arrive at a solution which maximises resources available under IReL for the next two years.

Following feedback from researchers at all IReL member institutions (the seven universities and the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland), a number of journals/other publications were prioritised for retention. A major national negotiation exercise with publishers delivered significant reductions in subscription costs and it has proved possible to fund continued subscriptions in 2010 and 2011 to all but 12% (by cost) of the total 2009 IReL resource.

Lists of continued and cancelled resources arehere. The cancelled list represents material which attracted relatively low use, and therefore high costs per download, or whose retention did not attract support at a majority of member institutions.
