  • British Education Index

    The British Education Index provides information on research, policy and practice in education and training in the UK. Strengths include aspects of educational policy and administration, evaluation and assessment, technology and special educational needs. It covers all aspects of education from preschool to higher education. Sources include education and training journals, mostly published in the UK. Some international literature is included.

  • GeoRef

    The GeoRef database, established by the American Geosciences Institute (AGI) in 1966, provides access to the geoscience literature of the world. GeoRef is the most comprehensive AGI database in the geosciences and continues to grow by more than 80,000 references a year. The database contains over 3.4 million references to geoscience journal articles, books, maps, conference papers, reports and theses.

  • Royal Society Publishing - Proceedings B

    Royal Society Publishing is the publishing division of the Royal Society, a fellowship of the worlds eminent scientists and is the oldest scientific academy in continuous existence. The fellowship is made up of the most eminent scientists, engineers and technologists from the UK and the Commonweath. Proceedings B is the Royal Society's flagship biological research journal, dedicated to the rapid publication and broad dissemination of high-quality research papers, reviews and comment and reply papers. The scope of the journal is diverse and is especially strong in organismal biology.

  • Wiley Journals Database

    Introduced in 1997, Wiley InterScience (www.interscience.wiley.com) is a leading international resource for scientific, technical, medical and scholarly content. In June 2008, Wiley InterScience incorporated the online content formerly hosted on Blackwell Synergy to provide access to over 3 million articles across 1500 journals. From 2016, IReL will have access to all journals published by Wiley.

  • Oxford Grove Art Online

    Grove Art Online is a scholarly art encyclopedia covering all aspects of Western and non-Western visual art. It includes the full text of The Dictionary of Art, edited by Jane Turner (1996, 34 volumes) - the landmark reference work containing more than 45,000 articles (more than 21,000 biographies and 500,000 bibliographical citations) contributed by 6,700 scholars from 120 countries.

  • Taylor and Francis Medical Collection

    InformaHealthcare.com combines the pharmaceutical, life science and medical journal titles published by Informa Healthcare onto one platform to simplify your experience, and deliver online content from more than 160 journals. These journals were previously part of the Taylor and Francis STM package.

  • Bibliography of British and Irish History

    Previously known as the Royal Historical Society Bibliography. An authoritative guide to what has been written about British and Irish history from the Roman period to the present day.

  • Reaxys (previously: Crossfire Beilstein)

    Reaxys is a web-based search and retrieval system for chemical compounds, bibliographic data and chemical reactions. It is built to support chemists in their daily work with focused and relevant information in chemistry. Reaxys has extensive coverage of quality, authoritative information in organic, inorganic and organometallic chemistry. Expert chemists carefully select journals and patents so that only high-quality, experimental data are included in Reaxys.

  • Dissertations Abstracts

    This resource is now called "ProQuest Dissertations and Theses". Please go to Proquest Dissertations and Theses for more information.

  • PsycINFO

    PsycINFO is an abstract database that provides systematic coverage of the psychological literature from the 1800s to the present. (The database also includes records from the 1600s and 1700s.)

    An essential tool for researchers, PsycINFO combines a wealth of content with precise indexing so you can get just what you need easily. PsycINFO contains bibliographic citations, abstracts, cited references, and descriptive information to help you find what you need across a wide variety of scholarly publications in the behavioral and social sciences.

  • ARTstor (CANCELLED)

    The ARTstor Digital Library provides more than one million images with tools for teaching and research. Its collections comprise contributions from outstanding museums, photographers, libraries, scholars, photo archives, and artists and artists' estates from all over the world (read the full list here: http://www.artstor.org/collections). The collections encompass a wide variety of subject areas, including art, architecture, music, religion, anthropology, literature, world history, American Studies, Asian Studies, Classical Studies, Medieval Studies, Renaissance Studies, and more (find sample subject guides here: http://www.artstor.org/subjectguides).   • Academic Search Complete

    Academic SearchTM Complete is the world's most valuable and comprehensive scholarly, multi-disciplinary full-text database, with 8,500 full-text periodicals, magazines and trade journals, including more than 7,300 peer-reviewed journals. In addition to full text, this database offers indexing and abstracts for more than 13,600 publications including journals, monographs, reports, conference proceedings, etc.

  • American Geophysical Union - CANCELLED (end of 09)

    AGU is a worldwide scientific community that advances the understanding of Earth and space for the benefit of humanity. AGU publishes highly respected, peer-reviewed scientific journals, including the Journal of Geophysical Research, which comprises seven disciplinary sections, and the highly cited Reviews of Geophysics. This resource is no longer subscribed by IReL. Please check your library's catalogue for local holdings.

  • Oxford Music Online

    Grove Music Online has been the leading online resource for music research since its inception in 2001. Now the cornerstone of Oxford Music Online, a subscription to Grove Music Online also includes The Oxford Companion to Music, and The Oxford Dictionary of Music. Grove Music Online articles also feature biographical linking to the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography for mutual subscribers to both, and a host of tools and resources, including timelines and topical guides. The Encyclopedia of Popular Music is now also included in the IReL subscription.

  • Pion Ltd - Environment and Planning Journals

    The Environment and Planning family of journals are concerned with all aspects of the evolution of space and spatial arrangement, from the environment and nature through planning and policy to theory and design.

  • Portico

    Portico is a new, not-for-profit electronic archiving service established in response to the library community's need for a robust, reliable means to preserve electronic scholarly journals. Portico was initiated by JSTOR and has been developed with the initial support of Ithaka, The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, and the Library of Congress. Portico's mission is to preserve scholarly literature published in electronic form and to ensure that these materials remain accessible to future scholars, researchers, and students.

  • Inspec Database - CANCELLED (Aug. 2009)

    Produced by The IET (Institution of Engineering and Technology), Inspec is an English-language bibliographic information database providing access to the world's scientific and technical literature in physics, electrical engineering, electronics, communications, control engineering, computers and computing, and information technology. NB: The current IReL subscription expired on the 31st of August 2009. Please check your library's catalogue for local holdings.

  • ESDU - CANCELLED (end of 2009)

    ESDU provides a vast range of validated design and analysis methods, software and engineering information. These are key elements in many of the largest companies in the aerospace, process, structural and mechanical engineering industries. ESDU has become a fundamental learning and teaching tool for many Faculty and Students. ESDU is a hands-on practical resource, complete with empirical and theoretical data, worked examples and software. Please note: this resource is no longer available through IReL.   • Global Health - CANCELLED (end of 2009)

    Global Health is the only specialist bibliographic, abstracting and indexing database dedicated to public health research and practice. The Combined file of CAB Abstracts and Global Health is delivered on CAB Direct. Please note: this resource is no longer available through IReL.   • EMBASE

    EMBASE is a biomedical and pharmacological database which gives you access to the most up-to-date information about medical and drug-related subjects. EMBASE contains over 11 million records from 1974 to present, with over 500,000 citations and abstracts added annually. These records reflect all current developments in biomedical and drug-related fields. Comprehensive inclusion of drug-related information makes EMBASE particularly valuable. EMBASE is the database of choice when carrying out drug-related searches. With live links to full content on Science Direct.

  • SciFinder Scholar

    SciFinder Scholar is a point-and-click desktop research tool that provides easy access to the information in the CAS databases. Students and faculty staff can explore a comprehensive and current collection of published scientific research, taken from 9,500 journal titles and 50 active patent-issuing authorities, through a variety of ways - by author or organisation names, research topics, substance identifiers, chemical structures and reactions - as well as by linking to full-text journals and patents on the web and in-house library holdings.

  • Compendex - CANCELLED (end of 2011)

    Compendex is the most comprehensive bibliographic database of engineering research available today, containing references and abstracts to over 5,000 engineering journals, conferences and technical reports. The broad subject areas of engineering and applied science are comprehensively represented. This resource is no longer subscribed by IReL. Please check your library's catalogue for local holdings.
